Financial Assistance

Review the type of financial bursary you are interested in, then complete the application below to be considered for assistance. Responses will be emailed to all applicants one week following the deadline.

Please note: There is a cooldown period for successful applicants of one year. Those who are successful in attaining financial support are asked to wait a calendar year before applying again.

The EWG is thrilled to announce that we now offer financial assistance opportunities.

Membership Bursaries

We have two membership bursaries available per year (September to June), valued at $40 each. Group memberships provide the following perks:

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be actively pursuing a creative writing project and invested in developing their craft as a writer.
  • Applicants must demonstrate financial need in their cover letter. We do not need a copy of your financials as proof, but please share the financial need in your letter.
  • Applicants must be 18 years or older.

Writing Retreat Bursaries

There is one bursary available per in-person retreat hosted by the EWG (two per year), valued up to $200 each. The bursary covers the fees for three nights, as well as meals (with the exception of Friday night dinner, which is at the applicant’s expense). Additionally, there is one bursary available for the virtual retreat hosted each summer by the EWG. This bursary covers the entire virtual retreat, but excludes meals. The Virtual Retreat Bursary is valued at $50.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be actively pursuing a creative writing project and invested in developing their craft as a writer.
  • Applicants must provide a cover letter that includes the following: demonstration of financial need and a brief description of which project the applicant will be working on during retreat. We do not need a copy of your financials to prove financial need, but ask that you include some demonstration of need in your cover letter.
  • Applicants must be 18 years or older.

Who can apply for the membership bursary?

Anyone who is interested in joining the Estevan Writers Group as a member for the season, provided they also meet the eligibility criteria.

Who can apply for the writing retreat bursary?

Anyone who is interested in attending the Estevan Writers Group, provided they also meet the eligibility criteria. Interested applicants do not need to be members of the EWG.

I was a successful applicant. When can I reapply?

Successful applicants are subject to a cooldown period of one year. Please do not reapply if you have been granted a bursary until the following year.

What do you mean by “financial need”?

The EWG values accessibility and recognizes that not everyone can afford these paid opportunities. Simply put, if money is what will determine whether or not you can participate in the EWG, we want to help you! While we do not require proof of financial need in formal terms, we ask that applicants demonstrate their need in a cover letter.

Who reviews the bursaries?

Bursaries are reviewed by the acting EWG Board.
